Our Baby School
Where Every Little One Blooms
Our Baby School is a bright and very large open space filled with soft furnishings, age-appropriate toys, and interactive experiences that stimulate curiosity and early learning.
Through gentle interactions, songs, and creative play, we help lay the foundation for language, social skills, and emotional well-being.
With a focus on sensory play, music, storytelling, and movement, our Baby School is thoughtfully designed to enhance cognitive and physical development while fostering a strong sense of security and attachment.

Early Years Foundation Stage
At Lanterns Arts & Educational Nursery, we proudly follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum, which provides a trusted framework for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to five years old. We bring this framework to life through a thoughtful blend of play-based exploration and carefully guided activities, ensuring that every child engages in meaningful, enjoyable learning experiences. Our approach supports each child’s individual journey, nurturing key areas such as communication and language, physical development, and personal, social, and emotional well-being.
What makes Lanterns special is our commitment to creating a warm, creative, and inclusive environment where children feel truly valued. We take the time to get to know each child, celebrating their unique interests, personalities, and pace of development. Through strong relationships and a nurturing atmosphere, we help children build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning. By providing a safe and inspiring space to explore, discover, and express themselves, we lay a strong and lasting foundation for their future learning journey.

THE ARTS
At Lanterns Arts & Educational Nursery, creativity sits at the heart of everything we do. We place a strong emphasis on learning through the arts, inspiring children to explore, imagine, and express themselves from their very earliest days. With our dedicated art gallery and dance studio, every child from our baby room through to pre-school has daily opportunities to engage in a rich variety of creative experiences, including painting, junk modelling, music, imaginative play, and movement.
Our team thoughtfully weaves these experiences into each child’s learning journey, encouraging them to experiment, take risks, and discover their own unique voice. Through these hands-on, expressive activities, children naturally build confidence, coordination, and communication skills, all while enjoying themselves in a vibrant and nurturing environment. At Lanterns Arts & Educational Nursery, we truly believe that creativity is fundamental to a child’s development, and we are passionate about providing endless opportunities for every child to shine, explore their imagination, and develop a lifelong love of the arts.

OUT & ABOUT
At Lanterns, we enrich children’s learning through a wide range of events and experiences throughout the year. Our educational outings take children beyond the nursery environment to places such as forests, aquariums, farms, and museums. These trips are a valuable part of shared learning, supporting language development, expanding vocabulary, and introducing key concepts across geography, science, history, technology, and mathematics.
With the guidance of our dedicated staff, children explore new environments that inspire curiosity and hands-on learning. These experiences broaden their understanding of the world and support their development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
We also encourage parents and grandparents to join us on these outings, creating enjoyable, social occasions where children and families can learn together. These shared experiences make learning exciting, meaningful, and memorable for everyone involved.

Our experienced and caring staff work closely with parents to maintain familiar routines, helping babies feel secure and comfortable throughout the day. Whether it’s enjoying musical workshops, exploring textures, softplay workshops or sharing cuddles.
We follow each child’s unique routine to provide a seamless transition from home to nursery, ensuring they feel safe, loved, and valued. We also work in close partnership with parents, sharing daily updates and milestones to celebrate every little achievement along the way.
DAILY SCHEDULE
A DAY IN THE BABY SCHOOL
MUSIC WORKSHOPS
Music workshops are an integral part of the babies’ timetable, combining fun with important developmental benefits. Through singing, rhythm, and movement activities, children develop early language and listening skills, enhance memory and coordination, and build confidence, social interaction, and emotional expression in an engaging and supportive environment.
GARDEN PLAY
Garden Play is part of the Baby School’s daily timetable (weather permitting), where they enjoy regular workshops in our outdoor garden, exploring a safe and stimulating natural environment. Outdoor play supports physical development, coordination, and gross motor skills, while also encouraging curiosity, independence, and social interaction, all of which are essential for early learning and overall wellbeing.
SENSORY
A key part of Baby School’s routine includes sensory play activities, where children are encouraged to explore different textures, sounds, and materials that support their curiosity, early development, and understanding of the world around them.
SOFTPLAY
Baby School visits our Softplay room as part of their daily routine. These sessions are designed to support early physical development, coordination, and balance while encouraging exploration in a safe and stimulating environment. Through active play, children also develop confidence, social interaction skills, and independence as part of their early learning experience.
PEOPLE WHO TRULY CARE
THE STAFF
At Lanterns Arts and Educational Nursery, our caring and long-standing staff provide a warm, nurturing environment where babies feel safe, secure, and cherished. Many of our dedicated team members have been with us for years, building strong, trusting relationships with both babies and their families.
Their experience and deep understanding of early development allow them to offer personalised care, and offer guidance and advice when needed on common topics such as weaning, gross motor skills development, sleeping patterns etc. Their familiarity and reassuring presence help little ones form secure attachments, fostering confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging from the very start of their journey.

MILK KITCHEN
FEEDING & CARE
Fully compliant with highest food safety standards
Meal times that feel calm, relaxed, and just like home
Breast milk, formula, and cow's milk all accommodated
Strict hygiene practices with sterilised bottles and equipment
Lanterns Arts and Educational Nursery is equipped with its own dedicated milk kitchen, ensuring that each baby’s feeding routine is carefully maintained. This specially designed space allows us to safely store and prepare milk feeds, whether it’s breast milk, formula, or cow’s milk, following parents’ instructions to meet each baby’s individual needs.

We follow strict hygiene practices, including sterilising bottles and feeding equipment, to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. With a calm and caring approach, we make sure feeding times are relaxed and nurturing, just like they would be at home.

We further support children’s development through our much-loved annual life cycle projects, including our duckling and butterfly experiences. These highlights of the year give children the opportunity to take part in truly hands-on learning, as they observe living creatures grow and change. From watching eggs hatch to gently caring for and handling the animals, children are actively involved in their daily care and develop a deeper understanding of the natural world.
For example, during our duckling project, children help care for the ducklings each day, including watching their daily baths, observing how they grow over a short period, and finally saying goodbye as they are safely returned to a farm pond when they are ready. These meaningful experiences encourage curiosity, responsibility, and respect for living things.
We also host a variety of special events that bring families together, such as junk modelling workshops, Easter and Christmas celebrations, Mother’s and Father’s Day afternoon teas, and baking sessions. In addition, we celebrate a range of religious and cultural occasions throughout the year, helping children to develop an understanding of different traditions, beliefs, and communities.
These occasions warmly welcome parents and grandparents into the nursery, strengthening our partnerships and creating memorable, family-centred experiences for everyone involved.
